Non-addressed mailings are used quite frequently in Denmark. The Danish Post Office is able in this regard to deliver to all households, multiple family homes, single family homes, row houses, farmers, gardeners, offices, commercial businesses and vacation apartments and homes.

Language and Cultural Features

The Danish population is considered tolerant, friendly and open-minded. The Danish standard of living is very high. Hence the quality, style and design of offered products should also be high in order to meet the demands of Danish customers. However, Danes do not solely emphasize quality; rather environmental protection and environmental pollution likewise constitute important aspects for Danes when deciding to choose a product. Thus local factors and local conditions should be simultaneously taken into account when planning a direct marketing mailing. Although a major portion of the Danish population speaks and understands English, it is advantageous to write a mailing in the Danish language. This especially applies for private individuals. If a mailing is sent to a company that is not in the Danish language, then it should be sent in English, and not, for example, in German or French. In instances of mail-order mailings, using a local sender address will create additional trust and confidence.

Customer Protection - Data Privacy

As already mentioned, Danish law prohibits list brokerage. Denmark has three laws that have a major impact on direct marketing, i.e., the Registration Act, the Marketing Act and the Door-to-Door Selling Act.

The Registration Act specifies the kind of customer information that may be stored in private databases. This act also prohibits sale ofprivate addresses. This is why it is only possible to sell company addresses in Denmark

The Marketing Act also contains limitations, among others on rebate coupons.

The Door-to-Door Selling Act regulates that is solely permissible to contact households directly via telephone marketing in order to sell books, magazines or insurance policies. An additional exemption is in effect for emergencies and transportation by ambulance.

Private persons may only be called in conjunction with marketing research under the requirement that the caller precisely identifies himself and states the purpose of the call. There are no restrictions concerning telephone marketing in the B2B sector.

There are no so-called Robinson Lists in Denmark that one can use to check his data. However, each person does have the option to be entered on the lease No Advertising Maillist at the Danish Post Office. After entry on this list, the person receives a corresponding top stickerthat can be affixed to the mailbox. All parties that dispatch non-addressed mailing in Denmark also comply with this agreement and with the stop sticker system.
